2026 Soccer Preview: Morton motivated to reach next level

MORTON — Even before game one of the 2026 season, Morton boys soccer is facing some competition.
That competition, friendly in nature, is coming from its own school after its girls program advanced to the Class 2A State Finals in the spring in head coach Zach Statham’s first year. His Potters boys team is eager to make a similar impact after making a significant improvement last season.
Morton brings back eight starters, including Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association all-sectional defender Caleb Engle, all-sectional midfielder Dayne Klopfenstein and second team all-Mid Illini midfielder Joe Anders. A competitive schedule early in the season, featuring Normal U-High, Peoria Notre Dame, Chatham Glenwood, Washington and Dunlap will prepare the Potters well for the rest of the regular season.
