There’s a proud tradition of boys wrestling in Central Illinois and many more grapplers from the area look to add to it in the IHSA playoffs, which kicks off with regionals on Jan. 31.
There have been multiple state champions from the area each of the past few seasons, including Washington’s Wyatt Medlin and Josh Hoffer, who look to repeat on top in their senior campaigns.
However, many other wrestlers and several would-be first-time state qualifiers around Peoria and Bloomington/Normal have the potential to add their name to the history books and earn podium finishes.
Below is a look at one standout Central Illinois wrestler, plus several others to watch, from each weight class that could find themselves on the podium at the IHSA Individual State Finals, which will be held Feb. 19-21 at the State Farm Center in Champaign. The dual team state finals will follow on Feb. 27-28 at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington.
