El Paso-Gridley seizes No. 1 spot in final Illinois media rankings of season

The final Illinois media state rankings of the football season released on Thursday with 10 teams around Peoria and Bloomington/Normal earning spots inside, or just outside, the top 10 of their respective class.
The biggest notable is El Paso-Gridley, who leapfrogged Wilmington for the No. 1 rank in Class 2A. Morton and Normal Community moved up in their ranks and Bloomington Central Catholic was one of several teams statewide to move classes in the rankings after the postseason brackets were released on Saturday.
The IHSA playoffs begin on Friday with the Opening Round, which features 32 teams per class playing a “play-in”-type game for the First Round, which starts next week.
The Illinois media rankings are voted on by a statewide panel of writers and broadcasters.
