Fitting the mold: Morton baseball powered by reliable role-fillers

MORTON — There are 25 players on Morton’s varsity baseball roster and only nine spots on the field.


But there isn’t anyone in the Potters dugout who hasn’t played a role in their recent hot stretch that’s taken the team into a three-way tie atop the Mid-Illini Conference. 


Pitcher stuck in a jam? The Potters always have quality arms ready to go. In need of a clutch pinch hit or a starter needing a rest? Morton has answers for that too, including Camden Taylor, who hit a go-ahead RBI single to complete a comeback in a 5-4 win over Normal U-High on April 25.


“Everyone's just really been doing their part, no matter who it is,” Taylor said. “I haven't played in a couple days and I just go out there and do my job.”
