GIBSON CITY — The Heart of Illinois Conference was littered with star seniors on the basketball court this past winter. Many of them will have the chance to take the floor one more time as high schoolers in the 28th annual WGCY Radio all-star games in Gibson City on March 21.
The HOIC will take on top seniors from the Vermilion Valley Conference in girls and boys games at Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School with the girls game set to tip off at 5 p.m. and the boys game at 7 p.m. There will be a dunk contest in between games as well.
Players were voted on by conference coaches and include local stars from Eureka (Kate Wilson), Dee-Mack (Dalia DeJesus, Jaelyn Nunley, Jerry Hahn), Tremont (Lilly Elston), El Paso-Gridley (Myli Ehrhardt), Fieldcrest (Kash Klendworth, Layten Gerdes, Pru Mangan), Tri-Valley (Ayden Jensen, Addy Freihaut, Addie Phillips) and Heyworth (Chase Ruppert, Lacy Gerike).
Tri-Valley’s Brent Ward is a coach for the girls team, along with LeRoy’s Chris Houser. LeRoy’s Jesse Hawkins will coach the boys team. Full rosters for both HOIC squads can be found below.
