Metamora falls to Pontiac in sectional title rematch, says goodbye to storied senior class

EAST PEORIA — There are few sports that can be more cruel than softball.
Metamora made the right pitches and hit the ball hard against one of the state’s best pitchers in a Class 3A sectional title rematch against Pontiac on Friday. But the Indians beat the Redbirds 1-0 for the sectional crown for the second straight year after a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
“That's the nature of the game,” Metamora head coach Deric Linder said. “That's why we love and hate this game so much is you can come out and play so well, you can hit the ball so well, and it doesn't matter.”
