A big Monday of spring sports in Central Illinois provided a heap of conference openers in baseball and notable performances.
Tri-Valley’s Grayson Coughlin threw a no-hitter to lead the Vikings to a win in their conference opener and Eureka’s Maggie Geuvens blasted a walk-off homer to give Eureka softball a big win. Several other teams, including Brimfield/Elmwood baseball and Morton softball, won on walk-offs. Conference play in the Mid-Illini and Heart of Illinois Conference began in baseball with multiple tightly-contested games.
Intercity and Mid-Illini girls soccer matches highlighted the action on the pitch.
