GENESEO — Washington baseball has been defying the odds since the start of the season.

After winning a regional and sectional plaque, the Panthers traveled up north to Geneseo to compete in a Class 3A super-sectional against Lisle Benet, which put an end to the Panthers' state dreams after a four-run first inning.

“They’re a good-hitting team,” Washington head coach Kyle Wisher said. “They did something that nobody’s done to Carter Prina all year, so my hat’s off to them.”

Despite the loss, the Mid-Illini champions, who finished with a record of 28-11, built their own legacy as one of the most successful teams in the program’s strong history.

“This is only the fourth team in the history of Washington baseball to get this far,” Wisher said. “So they’ll forever be remembered getting this far, winning a sectional and playing in this game.”
