More than a dozen Illinois high school area football teams took advantage of a less-than-sweltering July Saturday to spend time honing their skills and getting tastes of different competition at Washington’s annual 7-on-7 camp.
A dozen teams from the Peoria and Bloomington-Normal area were in attendance, including six from the Mid-Illini and four from the Big 12. Throughout seven different fields, the squads played a handful of opponents in a round-robin style format while a sizable crowd of linemen had their own camp, going through drills and various competitions.
While 7-on-7 differs from what the teams will experience on Friday nights, many athletes – both returning stars and players ready for a breakout year – offered up a glimpse of what they will bring during the season. Below are observations and takeaways from each area team that attended the camp.
