BLOOMINGTON — Finishing.
That single word has echoed through Bloomington Central Catholic’s offseason. Head coach Kevin Braucht and his players know it’s the difference between another middling record and a deep playoff run.
Just look at last fall. The Saints finished 5–5, but three of those losses came in gut-wrenching fashion: an 22-21 overtime defeat to Paxton-Buckley-Loda, a 28-25 loss to Monticello, last season’s Class 3A state runner-up, on the final snap and a one-score setback to Prairie Central.
Flip those results, and BCC is 8-1 and entering the postseason with momentum.
“We lost three games on the last play of the game,” Braucht said. “Against Monticello, it was the last snap. PBL beat us in overtime on the last play. Even against St. [Joseph-Ogden], we had opportunities late and didn’t capitalize. Our conference is too good — if you’re not ready every week, anybody can beat you. We were right there, but we didn’t finish.”
That’s been the mission this summer: learn how to finish.
