2026 Football Preview: Heyworth determined to build off prior success

HEYWORTH — Coming off a milestone season in 2025, taking its first playoff win since 2009, the Heyworth Football team expects a return to playoff football in 2026.

Despite losing 11 seniors from his Heart of Central Illinois Small division-winning squad, head coach Scott Godfrey is confident that the Hornets aren’t going anywhere.

“I think [we’ve] returned enough guys that have a lot of minutes played,” Godfrey said. “I think if our seniors can provide that leadership that we’ve lost, our expectation is to compete in every game. We want to compete for a championship.”
