Back and forth: Manual to remain in Class 2A following enrollment updates

Months after changes were made to the IHSA’s enrollment and classification policies, more changes are on the way, just weeks before postseasons in fall sports begin.
The 2025-26 season began the start of a new enrollment cycle for the IHSA, meaning that some schools’ classifications were going to change. However, after new policies regarding enrollments and classifications were passed in March, it meant putting them into practice in a short amount of time.
Following confusion between the Illinois State Board of Education and the IHSA, updated and accurate enrollment figures were recently sent from the ISBE to the IHSA. It resulted in nearly all public schools experiencing small shifts in their previously-listed enrollment, some of which were large enough to merit a classification change for several teams across the state.
