BLOOMINGTON — Brynn and Carter Landrus have grown up alongside each other, trained with each other and watched each other succeed on the diamond for years.

The Bloomington Central Catholic baseball and softball standouts are twins and big reasons why both Saints teams have gone on a hot streak in the later part of the season.

“I think we are each other's biggest fans, and I think that since we're both twins, it really brings us together,” Brynn Landrus said.

Similarities between the twins, both of which are sophomores, run deep. They both play catcher and both of them have hit home runs during their team’s respective playoff runs.

Bloomington Central Catholic softball is in the midst of an unforgettable Cinderella run in the Class 2A playoffs and Brynn Landrus is a big reason the Saints are still alive. With her team trailing Monticello 4-3 in the sixth inning of its regional title game, she hit her first home run to tie the game.

BCC went on to win 5-4 in nine innings.

“We ended up winning by one, and it was really special,” Brynn Landrus said. “I made my team really happy, and it was just an amazing time.”

As for Carter?

“I watched that ball sail over the fence,” he said.

BCC softball, which was a No. 6 seed entering the playoffs, continued its run with a 4-3 win over Marshall in the sectional semifinals as Landrus had one of the team’s three hits. She homered again in the second inning as the Saints went on to win 4-1 over Tolono Unity on May 29 and win its first sectional title in program history.

The Saints will play with a trip to state on the line on Monday against Williamsville at the Class 2A Millikin University Sectional.

Carter Landrus made his mark in the playoffs as well for a Saints baseball team that picked up major steam in the final month of the year. He drilled a home run in Bloomington Central Catholic’s 10-1 win over Buffalo Tri-City in the regional quarterfinals.

“My team really came together, hit together and that was my third home run of the season, which is really cool,” he said.

The Saints baseball team were knocked out of the playoffs in the next round, but Landrus is proud of the team’s resolve after a down year on the field in 2025. After going 6-25 last season, BCC went 10-4 in the month of May to finish the year 16-21.

“Last year was a struggle, but this year I felt like the team was bonding really well, we all got along together, had really good connections and just played well towards the end of the season,” Carter Landrus said.

Despite their hitting drawing much of the attention, both twins have made big impacts behind the plate, playing the hardest position on the field. After figuring out that pitching wasn’t their forté, they decided to switch to the other side of the battery and have enjoyed every bit of the switch to catcher.

“I like being like a leader of the team, to be able to see all the plays and make the right decisions for my teammates to trust me,” Carter Landrus said.

“I like being like the main person on the field, and I feel like everyone looks up to you,” Brynn Landrus said. “Your teammates always go to you to talk to something about, and I like being in every play and always being the one to talk and be there for the team.”

While much about the twins overlap, there’s little sibling rivalry between the two.

Whenever neither are playing, they both practice together with long toss in the front yard or hitting off a tee into a net in their basement and offer each other tips to stay on their upward track.

“If we see something going on, he'll help me,” Brynn Landrus said. “And I'll help him.”
