BRIMFIELD — Brimfield/Elmwood’s softball team is accustomed to playing in big games.
Several of the Indians’ players were part of a squad that won IESA state titles in 2021 and 2022. They also played in regional and sectional title games last year before falling one win shy of reaching state.
Their experience was apparent in Friday’s 8-1 victory over Port Byron Riverdale in the Class 2A Brimfield Sectional championship game and the win puts them one step closer toward reaching state again — this time as high schoolers.
“It's a relief,” Brimfield/Elmwood pitcher Sawyer Drury said. “I'm so proud of my team to make it this far, and it's a goal to make it to super-sectionals again this year, one game at a time. But yeah, it's just a relief, and I'm so glad that we get to do it again and hopefully do better.”
