FARMINGTON – The Class 2A Farmington Regional semifinals did not disappoint with a pair of one-run contests, including Peoria Christian going deep into the night and making a comeback against the regional’s hosts.
The Chargers’ hopes of advancing to Saturday’s regional title game looked slim when they trailed 9-2 after five innings. Turns out, they just needed those five frames to get started.
PCS stormed back with seven runs in the sixth and seventh innings, tying the game after two runners scored on an error and Nash Kiser drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs. The soap opera continued into the 11th when the Chargers took a 12-9 lead and hung on after a two-out rally from the Farmers to win 12-11.
“We brought the guys together outside the dugout and said, ‘Hey, let’s just chip away. Everybody’s gotta get a hit, a couple runs at a time,’” Peoria Christian head coach Jason Miller said. “And they stayed confident, didn’t give up, everybody makes mistakes and we capitalized on some of their big mistakes.”
