The Roundup, May 27, 2026: Baseball regional semifinals begin, Brimfield/Elmwood softball and Morton soccer advance to sectional finals

Baseball took center stage on Wednesday as regional semifinal play began with 12 Central Illinois teams advancing to Saturday’s regional title games.
The Class 2A Farmington Regional featured the day’s best games with Peoria Christian storming back to beat Farmington in extra innings and Brimfield/Elmwood outdueling LVC in a low-scoring affair. Two regional title games will feature Mid-Illini teams battling it out after Metamora, Morton, Dunlap and Washington all won. Normal Community’s Gavin Swartz threw a no-hitter and Tri-Valley’s Grayson Coughlin nearly did the same.
Brimfield/Elmwood softball and Morton girls soccer both advanced to sectional title games to be played on Friday.
