As Week 5 of the high school football season approaches, now is the time when teams hit a key junction.
Playoff eligibility can be clinched as early as Friday for teams that are undefeated, namely Dunlap, East Peoria, Bloomington, El Paso-Gridley, Farmington and Bloomington Central Catholic. Teams that are 3-1 and 2-2 can become a bit more comfortable with their playoff chances with a win, while 1-3 and 0-4 teams need to begin digging deep to avoid being prematurely eliminated.
Five area teams improved their position from last week in the CSM Power Rankings. Among them are Bloomington and Princeville, who were not ranked last week but picked up key Week 4 victories over Normal West and Elmwood/Brimfield, respectively. The large school No. 1 spot also saw a change after Normal Community’s loss.
Check out how the CSM Football Power Rankings heading into Week 5 of the regular season shook out below. Area schools in the Mid-Illini and Big 12 make up the teams in the large school rankings while area teams in all other conferences are in the small school rankings.
