Outside of fewer than a handful of games, the top football teams in Central Illinois all rolled to victories in Week 5, keeping the Clutch Sports Media power rankings largely intact.
However, both large school and small school No. 1 spots have new occupants as a result of Normal West’s win over Peoria High and El Paso-Gridley’s victory over Tri-Valley. The strength of the Mid-Illini and Big 12 this season has increased, causing multiple teams that are or deserve to be state-ranked to be left out of the large school top five.
The wealth is more evenly distributed in the small school rankings, with four conferences being represented in the top five teams.
Check out how the CSM Football Power Rankings heading into Week 6 of the regular season shook out below. Area schools in the Mid-Illini and Big 12 make up the teams in the large school rankings while area teams in all other conferences are in the small school rankings.
