Not much is guaranteed in terms of the outcomes of quarterfinal football games.
But one thing for certain is that Central Illinois will have at least one team playing in a state semifinal next weekend. That’s because two of the top small school teams around, El Paso-Gridley (11-0) and Farmington (11-0) will clash on Saturday in a Central Illinois playoff battle of epic proportions.
A pair of Mid-Illini teams will also have a chance to make a statement against squads from the Chicago Catholic League, whose playoff success isn’t a secret. Dunlap, playing in the quarterfinal round for the second time in program history, will host Burbank St. Laurence while Washington hits the road for the first time this season to take on New Lenox Providence Catholic.
Peoria High and Tri-Valley will also be heading north after scoring late touchdowns to win their respective second-round matchups. The Lions are set to take on Oak Forest, who beat Bloomington 34-14 last week, while Tri-Valley faces off with perennial state power Wilmington.
Clutch Sports Media will be providing a free, live video broadcast of Dunlap’s game against St. Laurence as our WMBD Game of the Week on centralillinoisproud.com/games/. Viewers can also watch the game on the WMBD+ app on their smart TVs. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. and pregame coverage on the broadcast will start at 2:45.
CSM will also be providing a free, live audio-only broadcast of Farmington vs. El Paso-Gridley on clutchsportsil.com. Kickoff time is 5 PM with pregame coverage beginning at approximately 4:50.
Our staff has made their predictions for all 5 area quarterfinal playoff games with their comments also listed below. Broadcasters for our broadcasted games are ineligible to pick winners for the game that they are broadcasting and will pick the winner of an extra game instead.
