East Peoria’s Lohnes, BCC’s Clark win CSM Spring Athletes of the Week

Both the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal areas were represented in the winners of CSM Spring Athletes of the Week from March 24-30 as East Peoria’s Auggie Lohnes and Bloomington Central Catholic’s Summer Clark took home the honors after receiving the most votes in their polls.
Both players helped their teams to favorable results during spring break trips, as Lohnes led his squad to a 3-1 record in Georgia and Clark helped the Saints go 4-0 on their trip to Tennessee.

Lohnes won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week after receiving 42 percent of the votes in the boys poll. He helped lead East Peoria baseball to three wins against out-of-state foes, with the only loss coming to Maryland power Dematha, plus a narrow win over East Moline United. Lohnes went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs in a 16-3 win over Deshler (AL) on March 25 and went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and four RBIs in a 16-5 victory over Paintsville (KY) later in the day. He added an RBI against Dematha on March 26 and hit a go-ahead three-run homer and double to finish his week in a 5-4 win over East Moline United on March 29.

What’s been your favorite memory of the season so far?
“Georgia trip.”
If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?
“If I was stranded on an island with a teammate, it would be Keegan Barnes because me and him are really good friends and he can fish.”
Favorite music artist?
“George Jones or Alan Jackson.”
Favorite food?
“Steak.”
Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?
“Drink an energy drink.”
Who’s your favorite college or professional athlete?
“Matt Carpenter.”
Do you have any hidden talents?
“I like to play guitar.”
Who’s your role model and why?
“My role model would be my dad because he is the one who got me into baseball and is always encouraging me on and off the field.”

Clark won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after receiving 38 percent of the votes in the girls poll. The multi-talented BCC senior tossed a complete game shutout to lead her team to a 5-0 win over Sardis (AL) on March 27 and contributed four hits and three RBIs during the week, two of which came in an 11-4 win over Sycamore (TN) on March 28. Clark added another 10-strikeout performance with no walks and just two hits allowed in a 2-1 win over McEwen (TN) in BCC’s finale in Tennessee to help the Saints win their sixth in a row to start the season.

What’s been your favorite memory of the season so far?
“Spending time with my teammates in Tennessee for our spring break trip and going undefeated for the first time.”
If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?
“The other senior on the team, Aubrey Campbell, because she’s hilarious and would keep me entertained and she is very smart so we would get off the island pretty quick.”
Favorite music artist?
“Noah Kahan.”
Favorite food?
“Watermelon.”
Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?
“I always spend a few minutes visualizing how I want the game to go and thanking God for the opportunity to play.”
Who’s your favorite college or professional athlete?
“Emily York from Tennessee Tech, she used to play on our team.”
Do you have any hidden talents?
“I’m pretty decent at track as well.”
Who’s your role model and why?
“My teammate Aubrey Campbell because she does everything so effortlessly and is always there to remind me that it’s just a game when things get really tense.”
