The loss of an Illinois high school football team in the 2026 season has left several Heart of Central Illinois Conference squads in a predicament.
One by one, several high schools in Illinois have announced shortly before the season or after playing multiple games that they would not be playing the rest of their varsity season.
On Sept. 9, Clinton became the latest team to announce that they would not play out the entire year, due to a mixture of injuries and low participation numbers in their program. That’s left HOCIC squads such as Eureka and El Paso-Gridley scrambling to find replacements on their schedules.
