Inside Dunlap’s brand-new 54,000 square foot, $12 million indoor athletic facility
DUNLAP — After just over a year of construction, the Dunlap Eagles have their new nest.
On Friday, the school debuted its 54,000-square foot indoor athletic facility, which is the first of its kind for any high school in the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal area.
The dazzling new facility reflects the growing interest and investment in high school athletics, especially within the sports-crazed Dunlap community.
Dunlap athletic director Jason Holmes said that the indoor facility, which is located a stone’s throw northeast from the high school, is something that there was an appetite for and has been supported by the school board and the community.
“This is an extension of the classroom and we're making that connection from athletics and academics and how well they go together,” Holmes said. “It made so much sense that our community could use something like this.”
