Morton finds its groove as hot start powers victory over undefeated Dunlap

DUNLAP – A Mid-Illini conference win does not get much better than Morton’s 43-21 win over Dunlap on Friday night.
Entering the third week of Mid-Illini conference play, the Potters traveled to Dunlap to face the Eagles in what was shaping up to be a clash of titans.
Dunlap came into the game undefeated, as well as being 2-0. Morton on the other hand, despite having a tough loss to Mahomet-Seymour in Week 1, had been on a tear the past three weeks, notching a perfect 3-0 record and outscoring its opponents 138-36 in that time frame.
That hot streak from Morton was put on display, as they raced out to a 28-0 lead after first quarter to put away any doubt of a big Mid-Illini victory.
The Potters can credit their hot stretch to their stellar play on both sides of the ball, but another reason is the relationship between the players and the coaching staff.
“We believe in each other,” Morton head coach Adam O’Neill said. “The coaches believe in the kids. The kids believe in the coaches and what we’ve been doing. It’s not a whole lot different than what we’ve been doing the last few years, but we just keep pushing.”
