Normal U-High girls golf secures return trip to state: ‘Means more than anything’

PEKIN — Pressure.
It encompassed Pekin Country Club like a morning haze at Monday’s Class 2A Pekin Sectional, where three teams and 10 individuals would secure the opportunity to play on the season’s final weekend at state.
Perhaps no Central Illinois team felt more pressure than Normal U-High, which has boasted the area’s best lineup all season long.
The Pioneers blitzed through the regular season, winning Intercity, Central State Eight Conference and regional titles, as well as more than a handful of other tournaments. But on Monday, they squeezed into the third and final state qualifying spot by two strokes and defeated that omnipresent pressure.
