NEW LENOX — You never know when that final bell is going to ring.

That’s the sentiment that was shared by Washington head coach Todd Stevens after his Panthers side fell to New Lenox Providence Catholic, 39-6 in the quarterfinals of the class 5A state playoffs.

“You never really prepare yourself for this, cause your mind doesn’t want to get there,” Stevens said. “People that don’t make the playoffs, they know when that final bell is going to come.”

Seniors like Will Freeman, Sean Thornton, and Josh Hoffer only suffered one defeat in the Mid-Illini conference during their four years as Panthers. The Panthers will continue thier undefeated conference streak of 26 games, coming with an ever-growing target.
