Small but mighty: Peoria Christian rallies for each other and community en route to 1A State Finals

PEORIA – Peoria Christian basketball can play for state titles.


For the last five years, however, the proof wasn’t there. The Chargers experienced plenty of success with multiple 20-win seasons and five straight regional titles, but couldn’t get over the hump of sectionals.


This year, Malachi Persinger, Gavin Walder and Trae Brickner were determined to change that. 


Not only did they lead Peoria Christian to win that elusive sectional title, the Chargers are playing on Thursday for a spot in the Class 1A state championship.
