EL PASO – The El Paso-Gridley community is no stranger to playoff football in recent years.

The Titans have qualified for the Class 2A playoffs every year head coach Tanner Benedict has been at the helm but, several weeks ago, enjoyed their first playoff home games in eight years.

EPG has gotten accustomed to two things as of late: playing at home and winning. The Titans did both of those things in the biggest football game since El Paso and Gridley’s high schools consolidated, knocking off Farmington 32-15 in a battle of undefeated teams in the Class 2A quarterfinals.

After the clock hit all zeroes, Benedict’s squad celebrated their 32-15 quarterfinal win with a plaque presentation, a Gatorade bath for their head coach and savoring their first semifinal berth since the aforementioned schools merged.

“I’m just so happy for the kids,” Benedict said. “Nobody knows how much work these guys put in except the group that goes to battle every day with each other. And so, for them to have an opportunity to keep playing and keep their season alive is something that I’m really grateful they get to be a part of and do.”
