Mid-Illini Conference play in softball took center stage on Thursday with Pekin taking the headlines by continuing its strong start by upsetting Washington. East Peoria and Dunlap stayed hot with the latter also picking up wins in baseball and girls soccer.

IVC and Farmington won close non-conference battles in baseball and several other small-school squads won conference games. Midland softball won a marathon 13-inning contest and Normal West won on a walk-off squeeze play.

The girls soccer sphere saw plenty of action, including a big milestone for Normal U-High’s Aubrey Balota and a close win for Normal Community. More than a handful of Class 1A schools competed in track and field meets.
