The Roundup, May 21, 2026: State, sectional track keeps rolling, Normal U-High softball wins third straight regional

Track and field featured plenty of action Thursday with the Class 1A prelims of the girls IHSA State Finals and the boys Class 2A Galesburg Sectional.

El Paso-Gridley and Tri-Valley girls had the most area athletes move on to Saturday’s state finals while Henry/Midland’s Daniella Bumber and Illini Bluffs’ Audrey Dickinson head into the day as favorites in one of their events. Metamora’s boys took home the sectional crown with Morton, Eureka and Limestone also qualifying healthy contingents for state next week.

Normal U-High softball won a regional title while Dee-Mack and Midland won regional semis. Tremont, Canton and IVC won some of the day’s most notable games in baseball and Metamora boys tennis started off well in sectional play.
