CHILLICOTHE — Eureka softball has waited nearly 10 years for a regional title.

Senior Emma Logan is among the current Hornets who have been waiting the longest and decided to take matters into her own hands on Tuesday night.

After trying to stave off an upset bid in extra innings by No. 8 seed Lewistown-Valley-Cuba, Logan lined a 1-0 pitch into right field to drive in Addie Hadfield and give the Hornets a 4-3 win in 10 innings in a Class 2A IVC Regional semifinal.

“I wanted to win but in the back of my mind, I was thinking ‘Just hit the ball and please get past for once,’” Logan said. “I was just trying to remain calm and confident in myself.”

Logan’s heroics popped a growing balloon of pressure and frustration that No. 2 seed Eureka felt after LVC made play after play to keep the game deadlocked in the later innings.
