Friday was filled with postseason action in softball, girls soccer, girls track and field, boys tennis and boys and girls lacrosse with some teams extending their season with thrilling wins and others suffering heartbreaking losses.
The girls track and field state prelims featured Class 2A and 3A action with Eureka and Normal U-High leading the Central Illinois teams. Many softball regional titles were decided by one or two runs, with East Peoria and Bloomington Central Catholic winning via walk-offs and Eureka, Peoria Notre Dame and Washington headlining a group of several other winners.
Three girls soccer regional championship games went to either overtime or penalty kicks with Dunlap and Normal West leading five local squads that were victorious. Over 30 boys tennis players from the area locked up state berths at sectionals. The day’s baseball slate was led by a comeback win from Normal Community and a milestone win for Washington head coach Kyle Wisher.
