The Opening Round of IHSA football playoff action began on Friday with more games to come on Saturday. The Mid-Illini showed out well with Metamora cruising to a big win on a night where wide receiver Briggs Bucy set a program record and Washington won as a lower seed.

Olympia used a strong second half and run game to win in Class 3A while six area teams’ seasons ended.

Two of the four boys soccer regional title games in the area had dramatic endings as Peoria Christian and Normal U-High won in penalty kicks. Dunlap and Peoria Notre Dame also recorded shutout wins. Dunlap’s Anna Yu highlighted the remaining area competitors at the IHSA State FInals in girls tennis as well.
