METAMORA — Kayden Turner has a knack for shooting when he’s got a basketball in his hands.

The sophomore is one of the most highly-heralded young recruits in the area and is taking his talents to Peoria High after spending his freshman season at Metamora.

What most people don’t know is that Turner can shoot well when he’s got a golf club in his hands, too. So well, in fact, that he’s already made history at his new school in his first season.

On Wednesday, Turner became the first Lions golfer in 10 years to advance to sectionals after shooting an 84 at the Class 2A Peoria Notre Dame Regional, which was held at Metamora Fields Golf Course.

“I’m pretty happy,” Turner said. “Being a sophomore, I still have two more years after this, so I’m just taking in the moment and just having fun.”
