

After earning the most votes in their respective polls, Tremont girls basketball player Savannah Jost and Normal Community boys swimmer Logan Goss won CSM Winter Athletes of the Week.
Jost helped lead the Turks to two important wins in the highly competitive Heart of Illinois Conference race while Goss starred for the Ironmen and propelled them to an Intercity title.The full list of nominees and their accomplishments can be found here and more info about our winners can be found below.
Jost won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week with 52 percent of the vote total. The junior forward totaled a team-high 18 points in a 51-24 win over LeRoy on Jan. 22, then helped Tremont to another big win with 14 points in a 39-36 thriller over Eureka. Jost has helped the Turks to an 8-2 record in conference play and a 5-seed in their highly competitive Class 2A sub-sectional. She continued her strong play with a 17-point showing against Tri-Valley on Thursday.

What are your goals for the season?
“As a team, to win a regional championship and personally, to beat the school record for most points in a game (33). I’ve been close quite a few times.”
If you were stranded on an island with a teammate, who would you want it to be and why?
“I’m not sure who because if I was with any of them, it would be a great time but we probably would not survive! (laughing)”
Favorite food?
“Chicken strips and fries, but with good ranch.”
I’d want concert tickets to see?
“To see Taylor Swift!”
If I could have a superpower it would be?
“To fly”
Who do you think is the greatest basketball player of all time?
“Michael Jordan”
Who’s your role model and why?
“[Former Tremont Turk] Whitney Rumbold because she has taught me so many things in the game of basketball. She is a big reason where I am in my basketball career today.”
What’s been your favorite memory of the season so far?
“My favorite memory of this season is either going to dinner after games with the team or blocking my sister in practices! (laughing)”
Goss won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week with 36 percent of the vote total after he not only placed on the podium four times at the Intercity boys swim meet on Jan. 24, he earned first place in all of them. As an individual, the sophomore took home a title in the 100-yard backstroke in 56.03 seconds, as well as in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.14. Goss was also a part of two relay-winning teams for Normal Community: the 400-yard freestyle relay and 200-yard medley relay. He joined classmate Wade Pyle as two Ironmen to take home four first-place medals at the meet as Normal Community won the prestigious event with 537 points.

“The goal for the season is to compete well at state and have fun.”

“I would want to be on an island with Sam Grojean, he’s a great teammate and fun to be around.”

“I love chicken strips.”

“I think going to see an Olivia Rodrigo concert would be cool.”
If I could have a superpower it would be?
“Super speed, it would make me a lot faster.”
Who’s your favorite college or professional athlete?
“I look up to Michael Phelps because of his dedication and discipline.”
What’s been your favorite memory of the season so far?
“Seeing my teammates use Icy-Hot for the first time.”
