2025 Football Preview: Peoria High loads up on skill, speed, experience in pursuit of state berth

PEORIA — Peoria High’s football team won’t play on the road against Normal Community or Normal West this fall.
It doesn’t mean, though, that there’s not a real possibility they could still end up playing a game in Normal: a state championship game at Illinois State’s Hancock Stadium.
Quarterback Breon Green is back. Running back Detaurion Pollard is back. The Lions’ entire starting secondary is back, and that still doesn’t fully scratch the surface of the skill that Peoria High has returning.
Simply put, there won’t be just one player that will be a leader for the Lions in the quest for a Big 12 title and more.
“It's kind of by committee, being that we're so senior-heavy,” Lions head coach Aaron Montgomery said. “We just got a blessing to have that many seniors in pivotal positions.”
