And then there were six.

Just over half of the remaining teams in and around the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal areas were bounced from the IHSA playoffs in the second round. Some of them, such as Bloomington Central Catholic and Dee-Mack fell agonizingly short but others, such as Peoria High and Tri-Valley pulled out thrilling comeback victories.

Class 2A features El Paso-Gridley, Farmington and Tri-Valley still alive in the round of eight with the Titans and Farmers squaring off in a battle that’s guaranteed to produce a state semifinalist. Washington and Peoria High are both one win away from facing off in the Class 5A state semifinals, but must get through teams from the suburban Chicago area this weekend. Dunlap is the lone Class 6A representative from the area still remaining after a one-score win over Crete-Monee.

Check out how the CSM Football Power Rankings heading into the third round of the IHSA playoffs shook out below. Area schools in the Mid-Illini and Big 12 make up the teams in the large school rankings while area teams in all other conferences are in the small school rankings.
