After two months worth of games, the regular season ends here in Week 9.
For some teams, it marks the culmination of months of work working toward becoming a playoff team, but falling just a bit short. It’s a chance to end the season on a high note.
For other teams, Week 9 is the end of their first season. Their second one is right around the corner with the IHSA playoffs set to kick off on Oct. 31. Seventeen teams in the Peoria and Bloomington/Normal area look to be playoff-bound but that number looks to increase on Friday.
Pekin (4-4) takes on East Peoria (4-4) in the only Week 9 matchup across the entire state that pits two 4-4 teams against each other, with the winner securing playoff eligibility and the loser likely staying home. Normal U-High is also at 4-4 at looks to grab its playoff spot against 1-7 Springfield Lanphier.
There are good games littered all around the area, including a clash for the Big 12 title between Normal Community and Peoria High, plus four matchups in the Mid-Illini between teams with similar records.
Bloomington Central Catholic, El Paso-Gridley and Farmington are all eyeing a win to finish the regular season 9-0 while Bloomington, Heyworth, Tri-Valley and Dee-Mack look to sustain momentum into the playoffs.
Clutch Sports Media will be providing a free, live broadcast of Normal Community’s game against Peoria High in our WMBD Game of the Week on ciproud.com. Kickoff is set for 7 PM with pregame coverage beginning at 6:45.
