EL PASO – El Paso-Gridley has had plenty to cheer about in the 2025-26 sports season.

The Titans had a historic football season that culminated in a Class 2A state semifinal berth, its cross country teams flourished yet again, and both its boys and girls basketball teams have played well in the final stretch of the regular season.

But the school has also had plenty to be proud of in more than sports too.

After both El Paso-Gridley and Lexington went into their respective locker rooms for halftime during their Heart of Illinois Conference contest on Feb. 10, something beautiful happened on the court.

In collaboration with the Titan Buddies program, the athletic department hosted a halftime scrimmage for special needs kids around the area. With student mentors on the court with them, all the kids got to play basketball with each other and even make a couple baskets while they were at it.

For the whole eight minutes, fans of both teams cheered as the kids ran down the court to the basket. Every time someone scored, the gym got loud and was filled with a heartwarming feeling.
