TAYLORVILLE — Washington’s soccer team is going to need some more pink hair dye.

And shortly after they purchase it, they can put it in their suitcase because the Panthers are headed to state for the first time in program history.

Washington found itself on the wrong end of the possession battle in the first half against defending Class 2A Belleville Althoff. But a pair of seniors and a freshman came through in the biggest game of their careers.

Senior forward Hudson Scrivner broke the seal midway through the second half, fellow senior Jackson MacGregor found the net in quick succession and freshman goalkeeper Oliver Wettstein thwarted every Crusaders attempt in a 2-0 victory in the Class 2A Taylorville Super-Sectional.

Washington head coach Chad Clift’s challenge to his team at halftime was accepted.
