NORMAL — Normal West’s Class 6A first-round playoff game was tough with many flags thrown, a few scuffles nearly every possesion and temperatures in the 40s.

It wasn’t going to be easy for either team to pull out a win.

After facing an early 12-0 deficit, the Wildcats fought back and took a 27-18 lead before halftime, a lead that would hold until the end of the game as they held on to win 41-30.

The playoffs have become a sign of regularity for Normal West, who has made the postseason for each of the last 15 years. But the significance of Saturday’s win wasn’t lost on head coach Nathan Fincham and the Wildcats.
