A jam-packed Saturday featured an overload of success stories for Central Illinois teams and athletes.

11 football teams in the area won playoff games, including Farmington, who blocked a kick in the final seconds to hold on and Metamora, Bloomington, and Peoria High throttling their first-round opponents. Bloomington’s Ky’Veon Chestnut, Dee-Mack’s Shaun Denniston, Bloomington Central Catholic’s Valshun Powe and Peoria High’s Breon Green were some of the day’s top performers.

Washington soccer made history with its first sectional title in program history, winning in double overtime while Normal Community also advanced to the Class 3A elite eight.

Many cross country teams were in action in sectionals with Elmwood/Brimfield, Morton and Delavan’s Corie Green winning titles, along with El Paso-Gridley and Morton on the girls side. 19 area teams and 20 separate individuals in total advanced to the IHSA State Finals at Detweiller Park.
