With the girls basketball season now having been underway for over two weeks, teams have started to or have already found out their identities as conference season begins. Ten of those teams have built up a body of work that has landed them in a spot in the initial CSM Girls Basketball Power Rankings of the season and nearly 10 more in strong consideration.
Only Washington and Normal Community are undefeated through their first handful of games, but don’t let many early-season losses fool you; bunches of area squads have scheduled tough in their non-conference slate and have proved that they can hang with state contenders.
The Heart of Illinois and Mid-Illini conferences have shown in the early stages that they could be set up for chaotic title races with a bevy of high-level teams competing in each. Both of those conferences featured three teams ranked in either the first large school or small school rankings.
The rankings are split up between small schools and large schools with teams from the Mid-Illini and Big 12 making up the large schools while every other area school falls into the small school rankings. Other teams receiving consideration are listed as well.
