METAMORA – The annual Redbird Roundball Classic hosted nine games in total on Friday and Saturday. Along with all the basketball action, Metamora’s Athletic Hall of Fame has seven new members.

Since 2012, the Redbirds have inducted some of the biggest names in their history to be part of their Hall of Fame. Athletes, coaches, teams and even “friends of athletics” have been honored.

One of the seven inductees was long-time Metamora basketball head coach Danny Grieves, who received one of the biggest ovations of the night when he received his plaque.

In over 45 years of coaching varsity basketball, he’s won over 600 games, and in 14 years with the Redbirds, he had ten 20-win seasons, three 30-win seasons — all of which came between 2021 and 2024 at Metamora — a 293-99 record and something that no other head coach has ever achieved with Metamora basketball: a state title.
