OTTAWA — Not everyone gave Morton a chance against the No. 1-ranked Kankakee in the Class 3A Ottawa Sectional title game.

The Potters had plenty of momentum and experience, but how would they match up with the athletic Kays, who boasted the state’s top senior Lincoln Williams and several other senior stars?

As it turned out, just fine as the Potters erased an early deficit to defeat the Kays 61-48 in front of a sold out crowd at Ottawa’s Kingman Gym and win their first sectional title since 2011.

“Our strength of schedule, our team, our journey that we have been on, has prepared us for this postseason,” Morton head coach Abe Zeller said. “We have gone through a gauntlet of a schedule, in my opinion. I’m just very proud and happy for our guys to be able to get it done tonight.”
