Normal West baseball focuses on being sponges, not bricks as young core emerges

NORMAL — The Normal West baseball team only has two seniors on their varsity roster this year and are without the pitching services of their ace Chase Reinhart. 


However, the young core has stepped up and the Wildcats are causing headaches for their Big 12 Conference opponents.


“We talk at practice all the time about either you’re a brick or a sponge,” head coach Chris Hawkins said, “Bricks break into pieces when you drop them, a sponge is going to take it all in and survive. Our guys are sponges right now”
