Normal West’s Bachman, Peoria Christian’s Lovell win CSM Spring Athletes of the Week

Two more Central Illinois spring sports stars, Normal West’s Ty Bachman and Peoria Christian’s Addy Lovell,  joined the select few to take home CSM Spring Athletes of the Week honors after receiving the most votes in their respective polls.


Bachman earned CSM Boys Athlete of the Week with several solid games at the plate and an impressive outing on the mound while helping the Wildcats to four wins. Lovell earned CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after scoring more than a handful of goals and assists to lead Peoria Christian in continuing its strong season.

Ty Bachman Normal West

Bachman won CSM Boys Athlete of the Week after receiving 42 percent of the votes in the boys poll. He led the Wildcats to four wins during the week of April 13-19 by getting it done at the plate and on the mound. Bachman threw 5.1 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts, two walks and four hits allowed in a 6-1 win over Rockton Hononegah on April 18, one day after he went 3-3 with a triple and RBI in a 10-1 win over Bloomington. He also went 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases in a 12-1 win over Urbana on April 15 and drove in a run in a 12-0 win over the Tigers on April 13.

What’s been your favorite memory of your high school career so far? 

“[My] favorite memory so far for me would be my first trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama my freshman year with all of my teammates.”


If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

“If I were stranded on an island, it would probably have to be Mayson Aslinger since we have been friends since kindergarten and playing together for years.”


Favorite music artist?

“Drake.”


Favorite food?

“Medium rare steak.”


Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

“I usually listen to music before the game and eat a peanut butter sandwich.”


What’s one thing that’s on your bucket list?

“One big thing on my bucket list would be playing baseball at the next level!”


Who’s your role model and why?

“My brother is my role model, he went D1 in baseball and I want to follow in his footsteps and go the same way.”


Lovell won CSM Girls Athlete of the Week after receiving 46 percent of the votes in the girls poll. The Peoria Christian forward kept up her outstanding freshman season with six goals and five assists in a three-game span where the Chargers went 2-0-1. Lovell started the week with a bang by scoring four goals and notching an assist in a 6-1 win over Urbana Uni-High on April 13. She transitioned to being more of a helping threat in a 9-0 win over Manual, assisting on four goals and scoring one of her own. Lovell scored in the first half against Limestone on April 16 to help Peoria Christian earn a 1-1 draw. Lovell has led PCS to a 7-2-1 start and leads the team with 16 goals and eight assists.

What’s been your favorite memory of your high school career so far? 

"I don’t really have a specific moment but so far this soccer season has definitely been a highlight."


If you had to be stranded on an island with a teammate, who would it be and why?

"I would say Emma Crone because she is the person that is always prepared for anything and would make it fun."


Favorite music artist?

"Morgan Wallen."


Favorite food?

"Waffles."


Do you have any pregame routines/rituals?

"Something I do before all of my games is chew mint gum during warm ups."


What’s one thing that’s on your bucket list?

"One thing on my bucket list is to take a trip to Hawaii."


Who’s your role model and why?

"My role models are definitely my parents because they are always pushing me to be my best and never give up."
