Pekin softball team beginning to believe, contending for top spot in Mid-Illini

PEKIN — The “believe-meter” is going up for Pekin softball.


That’s what Dragons head coach Skip Penning had to say about the season so far for his team that has established itself as a legitimate contender in one of softball’s toughest conferences in the state. 


Pekin hasn’t finished higher than third in the Mid-Illini and has won one regional title since the pandemic. But this year, things are coming together for the Dragons, who have a shot to put up their first 20-win season since 1998.
