With the regular season in the books, the final AP statewide rankings in Illinois high school were released on Wednesday and featured several key changes.
Since postseason classifications are not known until the 256-team field is determined, some teams may find themselves in different classes than when they’ve been ranked in in the AP polls during the season.
In total, seven teams — including Washington — were ranked in a different class for the final polls, now that their playoff classification has been officially determined. The changes had a domino effect in nearly every class, knocking some teams out while others filled vacated spots to sneak in.
Thirteen teams in Central Illinois were either ranked or received votes in the final poll, with Peoria High and Bloomington Central Catholic moving up from their previous rank. Just over half of those 13 teams were just outside of the top 10.
