How can the regular season in Central Illinois high school football be summed up? It depends on where you look.
The Mid-Illini and the Big 12 experienced a lot of parity.
Following Peoria High’s 36-14 win over Normal Community to earn a share of the Big 12 title in Week 9, four teams in the conference finished with a 7-2 record with Bloomington in the mix too at 6-3.Metamora, Dunlap and Morton all went 1-1 against each other with those matchups providing some of the best games so far this fall.
Washington was the exception to the theme, knocking out every opponent in its path en route to Mid-Illini title and remaining the large school No. 1 spot in the CSM Power Rankings.
Dominance was the name of the game among Central Illinois small schools.
Midway through the season, it became clear that El Paso-Gridley, Bloomington Central Catholic and Farmington were forces to be reckoned with. They each followed up on it by heading into the playoffs with a spotless 9-0 record and occupying one of the top three spots in the small school rankings.
Check out how the CSM Football Power Rankings heading into the first round of the IHSA playoffs shook out below. Area schools in the Mid-Illini and Big 12 make up the teams in the large school rankings while area teams in all other conferences are in the small school rankings.
