EAST PEORIA — Brendan Petty looked straight up at the ceiling of Allison Gym, backpedaling across half court with his arms extended, holding up the “three” sign with both hands.

His second of two triples within a short span in the fourth quarter brought a large, loud Morton crowd that made the short drive to East Peoria to life after the Potters had trailed the entire game.

Halfway through the season, there have already been many Mid-Illini conference games that deserve a popcorn bucket and a reclining movie seat: Metamora’s 86-82 triple overtime win over Morton, Washington’s last-second 48-45 win over Metamora. Canton’s consecutive close wins over Dunlap and Metamora.

Tuesday’s contest between the Raiders and Potters fit the bill too as the visitors surged in the second half to take a 60-55 win.

“Once I heard the crowd pop, it was one of the best sounds I’ve ever heard,” Petty said. “This is real close to home so once we got our crowd up and into it, it was just great.”
